Fossils To Fuel 2
This hands-on curriculum expands on many of the science and math concepts introduced in the original Fossils to Fuel. The curriculum is designed for students in grades third through sixth.
Students studying Fossils to Fuel 2 will team up with Petro Pete, OERB’s energy mascot, and learn how to use a dichotomous key to identify Oklahoma rocks. Students will also use an animated geologic computer model to “look” below the surface of Oklahoma, use viscosity tubes to study flow rate, use ordered pairs and a coordinate grid to locate Petro Pete, and study rocks, crude oil, porosity, pulley systems, cohesion and recycling.
Each class that completes the Fossils to Fuel 2 curriculum will receive a free field trip from the OERB to one of nine participating museums. Students will see an exciting energy exhibit sponsored by the OERB or be treated to a free energy class at the museum.
Developed by Oklahoma elementary and middle school educators, industry professionals and OERB representatives, Fossils to Fuel 2 meets the state standards. The curriculum provides everything a teacher needs, including a free teacher's guide and activity kit.
To acquire the Fossils to Fuel 2 curriculum, teachers must attend a day-long workshop. The workshops are free, and educators receive a $50 stipend for attending. Educators completing the workshop receive five (5) professional development hours.
