Petro Active teaches middle school students about the formation and recovery of oil and natural gas and includes classroom energy experiments. In seven lessons, Petro Active covers the formation of oil and natural gas, oil reservoirs, energy conservation, sound waves, seismology and the refining of oil.
This curriculum was written with the help of Oklahoma educators and industry experts. Petro Active meets Oklahoma Academic Standards. Educators receive free training, a teacher's guide and an activity kit.
Each class that completes the Petro Active curriculum will receive a free field trip from the OERB to one of nine participating museums. Students will see an exciting energy exhibit sponsored by the OERB and be treated to a free energy class at the museum.
To acquire the Petro Active curriculum, teachers must attend a day-long training session. The workshops are free, and educators receive a $50 stipend for attending. Educators completing the workshop receive seven (7) professional development hours.
