Petro Active teaches middle school students about the formation and recovery of oil and natural gas and includes classroom energy experiments. In seven lessons, Petro Active covers science topics such as geologic timescales and processes, wavelength, amplitude, frequency, distillation, seismology and conservation.
This curriculum was written by Oklahoma educators with help from industry experts. Petro Active meets Oklahoma Academic Standards for Science, Math and English/Language Arts. Educators receive free training, a teacher's guide and an activity kit.
To acquire the Petro Active curriculum, teachers must attend a day-long professional development workshop. The workshops are free, and educators receive a $50 stipend for attending. Educators completing the workshop receive seven (7) professional development hours.
Each class that completes the Petro Active curriculum will receive a free field trip from the OERB to one of 12 Oklahoma museums. Click here to view our partner museums!
